Supertech Invention Feats

We have streamlined the item-creation process, with Mystical and Psionic items as well as Supertech Inventions. Here we present a step-by-step guide to the process so that you won’t get lost in the specific instructions within the Invent feats.

First, decide which kind of Invention you want to build based on what kinds of powers you want and who you want to use them. Only someone with Supertech Invention or Use Device can activate Doohickies, Ray Guns, and Gizmos. Anyone can use Super Gear, Armaments, and Superchemicals. Only Gizmos can have more than one kind of power loaded into them.

Second, determine the Purchase DC of the raw materials you need to build the Invention. Supertech Armament and Equipment must start as Mastercraft items, and the enhancement process consumes some extra resources as well. The PDC, below, assumes you’re building a custom item for the Invention, in which case, just plug in the cost of building the item yourself. If you purchase the item, or already have it, then plug its used cost into the equation instead of its new cost. There is a cost attached to the item itself, even if you already have it because upgrading an item requires a significant amount of alteration. The “used cost” simulates the cost of alteration.

  • Mastercraft item PDC + 2 per +1 enhancement
  • Mastercraft item PDC + 3 per +1 enhancement

 

For Doohickies, Superchemicals, Ray Guns, and Gizmos, you build the whole item from scratch. No Mastercraft item is necessary.

  • PDC = 15 + total CP cost of power
  • PDC = 17 + total CP cost of power
  • PDC = 19 + total CP cost of power
  • PDC = 21 + total CP cost of powers

 

Third, determine creation time  of building the Invention. For Equipment and Armaments, the time is the build time for a Mastercraft item of that type, plus more time for the Supertech enhancement.

  • Mastercraft build time + enhancement x2
  • Mastercraft build time + enhancement x3

 

For Doohickies, Superchemicals, Ray Guns, and Gizmos, the build time equals the total CP cost of the power(s), including ranks, enhancements, limitations, and modes in hours.

  • Build Time = Total CP cost of power(s) in hours

 

Fourth, determine the Powercraft DC and roll the check. For Equipment and Armaments, the DC is the DC to create that item using the Mastercraft feat, plus a modifier based on the enhancement bonus you place on the item.

  • Powercraft DC = Mastercraft DC + enhancement x2
  • Powercraft DC = Mastercraft DC + enhancement x3

 

For Doohickies, Superchemicals, Ray Guns, and Gizmos, the Powercraft check is 10 plus the total CP cost of the power(s), including ranks, enhancements, limitations, and modes in hours.

  • Powercraft DC = 10 + total CP cost of power

 

Finally , note that you can create a limited amount of Supertech in a given time period. Within any given seven-day period, the total CPs of Inventions you build cannot exceed your Constitution modifier times ten.

For example , if you have Constitution 21 (+5), then you can make up to 50CPs worth of Inventions in one seven-day period.
